Fashion

Hi, my name is Karla; I go to Sandringham School which is in Hertfordshire, England. I spend my week at school studying Textiles, Photography and ICT. My main passion is in Textiles and Fashion, I even like to spend my spare time shopping with friends and reading Fashion magazines. Where I live everybody has their own personal style. Some people like to wear tracksuits or to only wear black. I personally like colourful and sometimes patterned clothes.

My favourite shop is H & M as they have a lot of choice and everything is really good value. Another reason I prefer this shop is that they use natural and recycled materials in their Garden Collection. This is important to me as it is for many people in Britain as I am concerned with ethical fashion. This means I don’t like to buy from stores which use child labour or unethically sourced fabrics. Another way I like to help support the ethical fashion industry is to buy vintage or second hand clothes.  I also enjoy buying these clothes as you can find one-off-pieces at the same time knowing that your money is going to a good cause.

Vintage fashion has become very popular amongst teenagers recently with lots of celebrities wearing vintage clothes. In Hertfordshire, young people spend a lot of time reading fashion magazines and watching fashion television programmes. This is especially true for me and my friends. Last week I spent my wages on a pair of shoes I had seen in a magazine. I think the media and celebrities have a lot of influence on how teenagers dress and what becomes fashionable. My favourite fashion magazine is Vogue, because I love the clothes and photography in there.

Next week I am planning to go to The Clothes Show, which is held in London. This is a massive fashion show where you have the chance to shop before and after. There will be lots of new designers and ethical fashion companies show casing and selling their clothes.  My school class are working on a fashion show at the moment; it is called “Junk to Funk”. The idea of the fashion show is to use recycled materials and create pieces from them. I find this really interesting as I get to work with younger students and discuss what kind of Fashion they like. It also raises awareness of recycling and encourages people to think about the environment.

One day I wish to work in Fashion and I am working towards taking a degree in Fashion design. Fashion is very important to me. I see it as a way to be creative and express myself. I like to customize my clothes and make my own accessories to suit my personal style. My ideal job would definitely be in fashion and I would love to either work for a large fashion magazine or own my own clothes boutique.
